The Incarnation movement, mostly known as the Word of God Group, is a movement of the Catholic Church founded in 1996 in Bamenda by Henri BAYEMI. Its founder considers it as an ecclesial movement as defined by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (Movements in the church: Pontificium consilium pro laicis) during the meeting of the leaders of Ecclesial Movements and New communities at the 1998 Pentecost.
On the 13th Febuary 1990, Mr BAYEMI Henri, civil servant researcher at the IRAD of Bambui, Bamenda, actually married and father of 5 children, was praying in front of the Holy Sacrament when he realized that Jesus was asking him to help Him save His people (Lc 15, 7;1Th 2, 4; Mt 18, 14) through prayer, the putting of the Word of God into practice and evangelization. Later on, he deepened the necessity to live the Word of God so that God, habiting in him (Jn 14, 23; Gal 2, 20), may save His people (Mt 1, 21; Jn 11, 21)
He then decided to share this experience with his wife and other people who became the first members of the movement. This is how he founded the Word of God group on the 29th September 1996 at the Saint Joseph Cathedral of Big Mankon, Bamenda, constituted with youths and adults. Members of this movement are called upon to live the spirituality of the Incarnation which consists in living the Word of God. For diverse reasons, these members left Bamenda and settled in other towns and regions of Cameroon and the world. Today, the movement is found in 4 continents (Africa, Asia, Europe and America), in 16 countries (Cameroon, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, England, Canada, United States of America, Tunisia, Malaisia, China, Ghana, Chypre, Congo, Benin, Mauritania), in 5 archdioceses (archdiocese of Bamenda, archdiocese of Yaounde, archdiocese of Bertoua, archdiocese of Garoua), in 15 dioceses in Cameroon and abroad (diocese de Namur Belgium, diocisi di Ferrara-Comacchio.)
On the date of 2nd June 2011, date of the canonical recognition of the Incarnation Movement by His Lordship Sosthène BAYEMI, we can count 50 word of God groups settled in 45 parishes.
